I couldn't quite win it for the Greens, but maybe next time. Congratulations to Reuben on his victory; and it was nice to meet you, Lou. I'm confident Reuben will be Ryde-first, Reform-second. Meanwhile, I'm around and available to support Ryde's bid to be UK Town of Culture in any way that I can (email address and phone below).
I'll leave this campaign site up for a while in case Reuben wishes to borrow any ideas 😏
This is how I would work as your councillor: publishing local problems, showing who is responsible, tracking action by the council, Island Roads and Southern Water, and explaining progress in plain English. Not slogans. Evidence.
Every issue raised by a resident is logged here publicly, with the responsible body named, the status shown clearly, and updates published as they happen. These numbers are a live snapshot of how the ward is being served — and where it is being let down.
Active problems currently being tracked across the ward
Issues fixed and confirmed closed in April
Cases waiting for a response from Island Roads, the council or Southern Water
Responsible body: Island Roads | Last update: 18 April
A cluster of potholes was reported via FixMyStreet. Island Roads have inspected the site and scheduled repairs for early May. I will confirm publicly when the work is complete and whether it has been done to an adequate standard.
Responsible body: Isle of Wight Council / Southern Water | Last update: 15 April
Residents raised concerns about surface water pooling after heavy rainfall. The issue has been logged with both the council and Southern Water. I am currently chasing a drainage inspection date and will publish whatever response I receive.
Responsible body: Island Roads | Last update: 10 April
A faulty street light was flagged at a ward walkabout, leaving a section of footpath in darkness. The fault was reported to Island Roads and the repair was completed within 10 days. The light is now working and residents have confirmed the improvement.
By email, via FixMyStreet, at a ward walkabout, or at a public surgery session. No issue is too small to log.
The problem is posted on this website without naming the resident. The responsible organisation is identified at the same time.
Whatever Island Roads, the council or Southern Water say — or fail to say — is noted here with dates and reference numbers.
Progress, delays and outcomes are posted so every resident can see what is happening and hold public bodies to account.
Potholes, uneven surfaces and damaged street lighting that make daily life harder and less safe.
Surface water and Southern Water failures that leave streets and gardens under water after heavy rain.
Illegal dumping and overflowing bins that blight neighbourhoods and lower the quality of life in the ward.
Pedestrian crossings and walking routes that need to be safer for children, older residents and everyone in between.
Better youth facilities and support for Ryde's bid to become the UK's first Town of Culture. These are not entirely unconnected!
This tracker shows every issue residents have raised, who is responsible for sorting it out, and what has happened since it was logged. Use the filters to see problems by street, category or responsible body. Nothing is hidden; nothing is closed without explanation.
Category: Pavements | Responsible: Island Roads
Reported: 14 April | Last update: 18 April
Several residents have reported trip hazards near the pedestrian crossing. The issue has been logged with Island Roads and we are waiting for an inspection date to be confirmed.
Category: Flooding | Responsible: Southern Water / Council
Reported: 6 April | Last update: 17 April
Standing water appeared near the bus stop after rainfall. Southern Water has agreed to investigate and the council highways team has been informed about the pattern of repeat incidents at this location.
Category: Litter / Fly-tipping | Responsible: Isle of Wight Council
Reported: 9 April | Last update: 12 April
Rubbish dumped behind the car park was reported via FixMyStreet. The council waste team cleared the site within three days. A good response time — and the kind of outcome I will always publish when it happens.
A broken street light leaving a section of footpath in darkness — logged, tracked and resolved. This page is an example of how every individual issue will be published on this site.

Individual issues matter — but patterns matter more. Here I would post regular updates on what is happening across Ryde North West: which problems are recurring, how public bodies are performing over time, and where progress is frustratingly slow. This is not a blog for vague commentary; it is a record of what is actually happening and what I am doing about it.
A short roundup of five to seven key issues and their current status, with direct links back to the tracker entries. What has moved forward, what is stuck, and which organisation has failed to respond within a reasonable timeframe.
An outline of recent flooding and sewage concerns raised across the ward, what Southern Water has formally promised in response, and where they are running significantly behind their own commitments. Published with dates and reference numbers so the record is clear.
A summary of cases where the lack of adequate youth provision came up at drop-in sessions or via email. What residents said, what I have pressed the council to do, and what — if anything — the council has agreed to consider or act upon.
Major roadworks and diversions can make everyday journeys a genuine ordeal — especially in a town where alternative routes are limited. This page brings together planned works, current closures and likely completion dates so residents can plan ahead, and so there is a clear public record of whether the disruption is being managed properly by those responsible for it.
Night closures 3–7 June. Diversions via [Street X] and [Street Y]. Island Roads estimate completion by 8 June.
Single-lane working with traffic lights in place. Expected to run until mid-May. Causing significant delays during school drop-off.
Ongoing structural repairs affecting bus routes into Ryde. Several residents have raised concerns about longer journey times and the reliability of diversions. I have asked Island Roads for a revised completion date.
The communication around the bridge works has been poor. Residents learned about the delay through word of mouth, not from any official update. When public works overrun or when plans change, people deserve to be told clearly and promptly — not left to piece it together themselves.
Where I believe traffic management or communication falls short, I will say so here directly and factually, with the evidence to back it up.
If elected I will not hide in a committee room. I will hold regular ward walkabouts and public drop-in sessions so you can raise issues face to face, without needing to write anything down or navigate a website. Then I will publish what was raised and what happened next — so the conversation does not end when you walk away.

I have lived in Ryde since 2009 (apart from two years elsewhere on the island). I share many of the day-to-day experiences of this town — the pavements that are hard to walk, the roads that need attention, and the questions about what the council is actually doing. I am not parachuted in. This is where I live and where I intend to stay. Even though my ground floor was totally flooded in 2023!
I started coding back in the Commodore 64 days, and over the last decade my team has put business applications into 19 countries — from Finland and Kenya to China and Germany. I understand big data systems and accountability. I want to bring that experience to the job of tracking what public and private bodies are doing for Ryde North West, and making it visible when they are falling short.

Every issue logged, every response published, every delay explained. No closed doors.
I live here, my children are studying in Ryde, and am genuinely keen to make a difference to life in the town.
Using the same rigour I apply to business software to track and challenge public body performance.
